Baywatch star David Charvet says he left the spotlight to build a future for his family
David Charvet did something unusual in Hollywood.
The Baywatch alum willingly walked away from a successful Hollywood career in order to spend more time with his children.
The French-born former actor and pop star - who played Matt Brody on the beach rescue drama from 1992-1996 - said in an interview with Page Six he 'reinvented' himself to be the 'father I wanted to be.'
'That means that you put your kids to bed every night and you wake up (when they wake up),' he said.
Charvet, 49, is the father of two; his daughter Heaven is 15 and son Shaya is 14.

The former singer shares them with ex-wife Brooke Burke and said he decided to make some changes to his lifestyle when his first child was born.
'Before I had my first child I was traveling for five years in 42 countries doing concerts for my music. There's no way I could do that again. I had to find a different meaning to my life.'

The 49-year-old Melrose Place actor said he stumbled on his new career accidentally, while building a new house in Malibu in 2006.
The actor turned builder explained he was unhappy with the original contractor's work on the home, so he fired him and took over with help from the project manager.

Charvet's last on-screen performance was in 2013's Prisoners of the Sun.
The former actor returned to the small screen for as short stint in 2017, teaming up with then wife Brooke for The New Celebrity Apprentice.
However, the couple separated the following year, but the divorce wasn't finalized until 2020.
The two share custody of their children and both say they have moved on amicably with their lives.

Charvet is keeping busy with his new life and career.
He is a partner in The Jones Builders Group, a residential contracting company, in Los Angeles that builds between 10 and 14 houses a year.
