Caitlyn Jenner and Lady Gaga's Malibu mansions escape unscathed from raging wildfires

Publish date: 2024-05-12

Lady Gaga and Caitlyn Jenner were among the celebrities who could breathe a sign of relief as it was revealed their multi-million dollar Malibu mansions escaped unscathed from the wildfire.

Yesterday there were fears that Jenner's home had been burned and photos showed smoke creeping in on Gaga's pad.

But today pictures revealed that both abodes appeared to be in tact and the Poker Face singer's chickens were seen alive and well in the grounds of her home. At Jenner's abode the land outside the property could be seen covered in ash - showing just how close the blaze got to her home.

'I am thinking so deeply for everyone who is suffering today from these abominable fires & grieving the loss of their homes or loved ones,' Lady Gaga tweeted. 'I'm sitting here with many of you wondering if my home will burst into flames. All we can do is pray together & for each other. God Bless You.'

In a video Friday updating her social media followers, Jenner appeared visibly upset but let everyone know she and girlfriend Sophia Hutchins had made it out of the area safely.

'We're safe, at a safe house,' Jenner said, who at the time of the video said she didn't know whether her home had been spared from the blaze.

'The dogs are out in the pool swimming and having a good time.

'Having a good day, ha! I don't think we're having that good of a day, but anyway,' Jenner said, with teary, or possibly glassy, eyes.

At that comment, Hutchins playfully swatted Jenner on the shoulder, and said, 'We're having a vodka, it's been a Hell of a morning, but we're safe, that's all that matters.'

At around 7am Pacific on Friday, officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for the entire city of Malibu, home to 13,000 people, as the fire was declared an 'imminent threat'.

Jenner has owned her home in Malibu since 2015 and it has been featured multiple times on her reality series.

Hutchins said in an earlier Instagram story: 'I just want to let everyone know we made it out, both of us made it out.

'The dogs made it out, a few of our belongings made it out and we are safe, and that's all that matters. We're safe.'

Jenner can be heard in the background talking on the phone about how she 'was going to stay at the house,' but obviously thought better of it.

Other celebrities also took to social media Saturday to update fans on the state of their homes. Alyssa Milano, who on Friday tweeted that her house was 'in jeopardy' but she had gotten needed help to evacuate her horses and that her children were safe, was among the lucky ones.

'My house is still standing. I'm on my way to bring firefighters water and food,' she tweeted. She previously said her heart was with others facing 'this awful disaster.'

There were shout-outs as well to the firefighters struggling to contain the fires in what were described as especially difficult conditions.

'These guys are heroes,' filmmaker Guillermo del Toro posted on Twitter. His so-called 'Bleak House,' which contains his collection of items too scary to be kept in the family home, was endangered.

Shannen Doherty, who'd been out of town when the fire broke out, said online that friends staying at her Malibu house evacuated safely with her dogs. She expressed gratitude to firefighters 'putting their lives on the line for all of us' and sympathy for others affected by the fire.

Martin Sheen ('The West Wing,' ″Apocalypse Now'), interviewed by a TV station on the beach Friday night after fleeing his home, said the fire was the worst he has ever seen. He said he expects his house was destroyed.

The interview occurred after his son, actor Charlie Sheen, tweeted that he'd been unable to contact his father, and the Los Angeles Fox affiliate KTTV tracked him down. Martin Sheen gave a shoutout to his family to let them know he and his wife, Janet, were safe and planned to sleep in their car by the beach.

The status of Martin Sheen's home was unknown Saturday.

'Beverly Hills, 90210' star Doherty said her 'heart is ripped apart' by the loss of a Malibu home where she and husband Kurt Iswarienko were married in 2011, posting on Instagram a wedding-day photo of the smiling couple on a tree-lined path at the property apparently owned by a friend.

She had previously found refuge in the house when her father died in 2010, Doherty wrote.

'It's the place I felt my dad with me. It's gone. Fire has taken it away. I'm devastated by all that's happening,' she said.

The blaze started Thursday night and by Friday had pushed toward Malibu and the Pacific Ocean, prompting evacuations in Malibu, Calabasas, Agoura Hills and other nearby areas. Authorities said Saturday that two people were found dead in the fire zone and at least 150 homes burned .

Officials stressed late Saturday that high winds are expected to resume on Sunday and mandatory evacuations must remain in place.

In Northern California, the small inland town of Paradise was virtually wiped out by a fast-moving blaze that destroyed more than 6,700 buildings and claimed nine lives as of Saturday.

Although the fatalities overshadowed any loss of property, Malibu's fame inevitably called attention to the state of its multimillion-dollar homes, including one made famous in ABC's reality dating series 'The Bachelor.'

The show's producers said in a statement Saturday that, with the area closed to traffic, they didn't know the condition of what is primarily a private residence. They said their main concern 'is with the family who has been displaced, their neighbors, and all the communities impacted by this tragic fire.'

THE BACHELOR MANSION

The Bachelor mansion, which is located at 2351 Kanan Road in Agoura Hills, has reportedly been caught up in the blaze that is ripping its way through Southern California.

At the very least, the mansion's back patio is believed to have been burned, as the fire was pushing closer toward the residences on the property, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The latest Bachelor to star in the franchise, Colton Underwood, was rumored to have started filming this season on September 21, according to US Weekly

According to Reality Steve, known for providing spoilers for the Bachelor franchise while it's filming, shooting has long been completed at the mansion in California for Underwood's season, so it's not likely that any contestants were on site or in any danger.

Bachelor franchise producer Mike Fleiss, who lives in Malibu, tweeted at 10am on Friday, 'Pray for Malibu— and #TheBachelor Mansion...' before the fires had made their way to the famed location

Fleiss received backlash for the post, which critics seemed to think was too lighthearted a take for the destruction being experienced in the region, and somehow excluded the parts of Malibu that didn't include the mansion, but Fleiss wasn't having it.

At 5.12pm, he shared a new tweet that read, 'What part of 'pray for Malibu' confuses you idiots. I live in Malibu! My heart is broken. Go f*** yourselves!'

THE KARDASHIAN-WESTS

Kim and Kanye left their 15,000 square-foot estate in Hidden Hills, which is thought to be worth around $20million, on Thursday night.

At around 4.30pm Friday in California, Kim shared a photo kissing her niece, as she tried to calm her nerves.

'Trying to get my mind off of this fire and snuggling with my niece. We are all safe and that's all that matters,' she wrote in the photo's caption on Instagram.

Before sharing the sweet image, she was spotted with friend Larsa Pippen leaving an Epione Skin Clinic in Beverly Hills.

KOURTNEY AND KHLOE KARDASHIAN

Khloe Kardashian didn't want to just sit around watching the news as the California wildfires swept through Calabasas, Hidden Hills and Malibu on Saturday.

So the 34-year-old slipped on a mask and went out shopping to buy necessities for firefighters like water, granola bars and Chapstick.

And the mother to True Thompson, aged six months, shared the experience on social media.

KANYE WEST'S OFFICE

Kanye's office in Calabasas was also evacuated due to the Woolsey Fire.

Emergency responders were pictured on the scene, on ladders extending to the rooftop of the building.

A car was pictured in the parking lot outside of Kanye's offices, ablaze.

A virtual wall of fire that torched shrubbery near where the car was parked may have been what led to the vehicle catching fire, itself.

The car was eventually doused, with at least one window complete shattered as the flames were put out by emergency responders

BELLA HADID

Bella Hadid shared a heartfelt post on Instagram including photos posted over Thursday and Friday.

The first photo in her post was one taken by Grant Denham, showing people evacuating in Malubue. Denham and his wife Cassie have experienced being displaced by Southern California fires before.

'[I] can't believe this....it makes me so emotional looking at these photographs taken in the past two days. our beautiful Malibu looks so sad today,' Hadid wrote at around 5.30pm in California, though she was away for work at the Victoria's Secret fashion show in New York, with fellow model Kendall Jenner, as well.

'Malibu is such a connected, loving community with families that have lived there for 30+ years. Many of them growing up together raising children together for so many decades making so many memories... our high school has gone down as well as so many of the homes we all grew up in... Pavilions was more than just a grocery store.

'I can't even imagine how you all are feeling back home having to evacuate... I'm so sorry that you have to watch this happen right in front of you- Im sure it is the most painful thing in the world. my heart is so broken I am so sorry to every single person that lost their homes, and I hope we can come up with something very soon to help...

'As you can see- horses and other animals are being brought to beaches because there is no way to get out of Malibu anymore...I added a few places you can evacuate your animals to if anyone that needs help is reading this.'

ERIC WYNALDA

Former American soccer star Eric Wynalda watched his home in Westlake Village burn to the ground on live TV just after he and his family evacuated as the Woolsey Fire approached.

Wynalda received emergency alerts warning of a voluntary evacuation around 12.30am Saturday, so his wife and children loaded up their car with clothes, important documents and other valuables and took off. He stayed behind to pack up a second car and evacuate soon after them.

As he was gathering decades worth of soccer memorabilia - including mementos from the three times he competed in the World Cup - police pounded on Wynalda's front door around 3am and told him to leave immediately as a fireball had just landed near his home.

'The firetrucks weren't even there yet,' Wynalda told the San Diego Union-Tribune. 'I went across the street and got an elevated look at the fire and I was like: 'OK, that's not good.' There got to be so much smoke and ash that I couldn't even see any more, so I left and got on the freeway.'

An hour later Wynalda received a text from a friend that said: 'I'm so sorry, bro.'

He responded: 'I know, this is horrible.'

The friend wrote back: 'No, your house is on Channel 9. I'm watching it. Your house is on fire.'

As soon as he arrived at his in-laws' home Wynalda turned on the TV and saw his home engulfed in flames. It was the only house in the entire 162-building development that was on fire.

'Gone,' Wynalda told the Union-Tribune. 'Brutal … Watched it burn on live TV.'

The Woolsey Fire had already scorched at least 35,000 acres north of Los Angeles, according to the latest CAL FIRE update which was released at 8.08pm on Friday,  since the fire first ignited near Rocketdyne, at around 2pm local time on Thursday.

It quickly spread southwest toward Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks, the community still reeling from a mass shooting on Wednesday night, before making its way to the coast.

To the west of the Woolsey Fire a second, smaller blaze dubbed the Hill Fire had torched 4,531 acres in Ventura County, per an update posted at 8.12pm on Friday, after igniting at around the same time as the Woolsey Fire, but in Hill Canyon on Thursday afternoon.

The Woolsey fire remained at zero percent contained as of the most current updates on Friday, with the Hill Fire then listed as 15 percent contained.
