Racist University of Kentucky student is off to rehab and will 'withdraw' from classes

Publish date: 2024-06-16

A racist University of Kentucky student who ranted for 10 minutes and sang the word ‘n*****’ at a desk clerk is being sent to rehab to address her 'issues' and will withdraw from classes.

Sophia Rosing was arrested early Sunday morning after she stumbled into the dorms on campus in Lexington, Kentucky, before she launched herself at fellow student Kylah Spring, who was working the front desk.

It comes after DailyMail.com revealed that the 22-year-old allegedly doxxed a 15-year-old girl while they were at high school together, publicly posting that she would 'send nudes' and falsely claimed she had an abortion.

Her attorney Fred Peters told DailyMail.com that the business and marketing major will be 'withdrawing' from school and will be 'getting treatment for her issues' - though he would not confirm if they were alcohol related.

Peters said that Rosing was a 'very, very embarrassed and humiliated young lady' and would also be undertaking 'racial sensitivity' training.

It is unclear if the treatment and training will affect the criminal case against Rosing, who was charged with a felony offence of a third-degree assault of a police officer. She has pleaded not guilty to those charges, including to charges of intoxication in a public place, fourth-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Footage showed her violent and racist outburst against Spring, with court documents revealing that she called her a 'n*****' more than 200 times.

In the full 10-minute-long clip, Rosing is told that she ruined her life to which she brazenly replied 'no I didn't' before quietly singing the n-word over and over before police arrived to arrest her.

Even after the University of Kentucky officer has her in handcuffs, the business and marketing major can still be heard softly singing the word as she is dragged away.

Rosing can also be heard telling Spring to 'do her chores' as well as calling her an 'ugly n***** b****' while horrified students look on and some try to intervene.

On the quiet, sun-dappled street in Fort Mitchell where Rosing grew up, neighbors approached by DailyMail.com on Tuesday all seemed to be aware of her shocking racism scandal, though few wished to comment.

'They're good people,' one neighbor said regarding the family, which includes Rosing, her parents and sister.

That neighbor declined to offer his name, as did a young mother down the street, who said she knew the family only in passing, but said: 'They seem like upstanding people. I usually see them walking the dog.'

Following word that Rosing is preparing to check into rehab, no one answered the door at her family home on Tuesday afternoon.

'This is a recurring issue in and across the American school system no matter what age. I am deeply saddened by the events that took place, but I am most grateful for justice that is to come.

'To Miss Rosing. You will not break my spirit and you will be held accountable for your actions. I only pray that you open your heart to love and try to experience life differently and more positively.

'As Michelle Obama once said, when they go low, we go high. I will continue to address this situation with grace and humility.'

Before the march by students, Rosing on Monday sobbed as she appeared via video link at at District Court to plead not guilty to charges of intoxication in a public place, third-degree assault on a police officer, fourth-degree assault and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Pictures obtained by DailyMail.com show her walking out of the Fayette County Detention Center later Monday night, still wearing a tight skirt and boots.

She was accompanied by her parents, Jill and Don Rosing, who paid her $10,000 bond. Rosing is now banned from contacting Spring and will not be allowed to return to Boyd Hall, or drink alcohol.

Rosing attempted to cover her face while leaving the detention centre, and her parents ignored questions when approached by DailyMail.com.

University Police were finally able to take Rosing into custody just before 4am on Sunday following the now viral incident. She was being held at the Fayette County Detention Center - where she refused to identify herself to officers upon her arrival in the early hours.

Now, university students are calling for Rosing to be expelled from the university and are also urging President Eli Capilouto to do more.

A petition on Change.org has also been set up to get Rosing expelled from the school, with 117 people signing so far.

Spring, who was assaulted by Rosing, shared a post which said: 'Eli, as per usual makes a statement that means jack s*** without action.

'Sophia Rosing needs to be held accountable and expelled for what she did. We will not tolerate this hate on campus.'

When asked by DailyMail.com if Rosing would be suspended, the University declined to comment because the disciplinary investigation was ongoing.

Rosing had previously bragged to fellow students the year before the vile racist incident, saying 'I'm rich as f*** and you're obviously not'.

But DailyMail.com can reveal that she grew up in a modest three-bedroom and two-bathroom family property in Fort Mitchell with her parents and siblings.

Her father, Paul Donald Rosing, works as an Technology Executive for Messer Construction Co, but relatives of Rosing have not yet responded to request for comment.

Meanwhile, Rosing herself has been fired by fashion brand Dillard's for her outburst.

She was part of the Campus Collective Program, with a Dillard's spokesperson saying: 'Dillard's does not condone this behavior. Her relationship with Dillard's has been terminated immediately.'

In video of the incident posted online, Rosing was barely able to stand up straight as she tried to hit student Kylah Spring, who was working at the front desk of a dormitory on campus.

Video of the attack showed Rosing, who is white, calling Spring a 'n***** b***' as the front desk clerk tried to restrain her and prevent her from getting into an elevator.

'Could you stop please?' Spring asked Rosing after she managed to escape Spring's grasp.

'Nope,' Rosing responded, before Spring tried to grab her again. Rosing then continued to repeat the racial slur, causing Spring to say: 'Ooh Jesus, I do not get paid enough for this.'

'Exactly and you're a n***** and you're a b****,' Rosing responded several times before a voice off-camera told Spring: 'I've got this all on video.'

During her rampage, Rosing told University of Kentucky police officers that she gets 'special treatment' because she has 'lots of money', according to WKYT

She 'kicked and bit' officers as they tried to place her under arrest, according to court documents.
